Mandag 20. november holder POLKOM-leder professor Øyvind Ihlen lunsjforedrag med tittelen "Putting conflict back in political public relations”. Ihlen presenterer paper skrevet med Heidi Houlberg Salomonsen ved Universitetet i Aarhus.

In this paper, we depart from the observation that public relations has largely been silent regarding approaches to conflict, a neglect that becomes glaring when focusing on political public relations (PPR) which is performed in the context of political conflicts and opposing opinions and political preferences. While this, we argue, holds implications for how relationships between politicians and their publics are conceptualized, it further holds the potential of perceiving conflicts as an inhibiting factor, a factor which needs to be overcome so to say for the very performance of (effective) PPR, by means of persuasion or outright manipulation. In the paper, we further suggest an alternative perspective on conflicts, which, we argue, is not only more realistic but also more democratic for performing PPR. Not least when performed by or for politicians once in government.

POLKOM-leader professor Øyvind Ihlen will give a lunchtalk titled "Putting conflict back in political public relations” at 12 o'clock Monday November 20th.

The talk will be based on an article co-written with Heidi Houlberg Salomonsen at the Universitetet of Aarhus, Denmark.
