POLKOM-mandag: Comparing Political Journalism

Professor Frank Esser will speak about his recently published book «Comparing Political Journalism» (Routledge 2017). It is a systematic, in-depth study of the factors that shape and influence political news coverage today. Looking at newspapers, television news, and news websites from 16 countries, it assesses what kinds of media systems are most conducive to producing quality journalism. A range of causal factors are explored to explain key features of contemporary political news coverage, such as Strategy and Game Framing, Negativity, Political Balance, Personalization, Hard and Soft News. Daniel Hallin wrote about the book that it «is a fine example of a new generation of scholarship that is using systematic cross-national research to give us new insights into the way systemic factors influence media performance.»
